Recently a report titled An Anatomy of Economic Inequality in the
The report states that ten percent of the richest people of the society are nearly hundred percent better off that the poorest in the society. This figure shows the disparity between the different strata of society. It further revealed that disabled workers have 30% less income than other people of the same working age. The report also highlighted the fact that eighty percent of recruitment processes are out of bounds for the disabled and one in every three people is disabled or close to someone facing disability.
Susan Scott-Parker, Chief Executive of EFD, thinks that the above figures in the report prove without doubt that a lot has to be done to bring about employment equality. She stated that organizations could benefit in multiple ways by employing people with disabilities. Organisations which are disability-friendly employers improve their productivity by practising efficient recruitment and customer service processes, added Scott-Parker. The EFD supported her and added that proper appraisal and promotion policies will ensure that the earnings of the disabled workers are at par with others.
Apart from this, favourable Government policies towards encouraging employers to employ disabled persons will also help in ensuring that people with disabilities are not discriminated against.
